Welcome to the first of many blog posts on the Alaska Mortgage Momma website! This blog will be a place to learn about all things mortgage. I hope to be a resource for my clients, potential clients, and referral partners, so please do not hesitate to send me an email!
Today I want to give you some history on how the Alaska Mortgage Momma came to life. I have been in the real estate and mortgage industry for 20+ years. My past experiences have culminated in this dream business, and I am excited to be your trusted partner in home financing.
Moving to Alaska
I moved to Alaska from Washington in third grade and never looked back. At the time, all my aunts, cousins, and grandparents lived within 30 miles of one another, and it was a fantastic way to grow up. All the cousins grew up like siblings, and there was never a shortage of playmates. My grandparents lived at the base of Hatcher Pass, and there were always sleepovers, dinners at the Fishhook Cafe, and family get-togethers. As our family grew, many of my siblings and cousins moved out of Alaska, but my grandparent’s property is still a gathering space because it is now mine! It is incredible to be living my life in a place with so much family history.
My Family
What is the motivation behind Mortgage Momma? My amazing family. I am the momma to two sassy girls and bonus momma to four amazing kids. Our kids range in age from 8 to 26, and it is non-stop around here! Our big blended family is big, loud, and full of love. When we are not working on house projects, we love to adventure around this beautiful state—camping, hiking, kayaking, or simply spending time around the bonfire. We love to take advantage of everything that Alaska has to offer. We love living here, but we also love to travel. Whether visiting family in the lower 48 or taking time to visit Hawaii, we love to get out and spend time together.
My husband works on the slope, so I am running our circus half the time on my own. One of the benefits of my business is that it works for our family schedule and allows me the flexibility to be present for the kids whenever they need me. The foundation of this business and this team is family, so we will always strive for a balance between family and business because the happier the team is, the better we can serve you!
My Start in Real Estate
I started as an assistant to a realtor in 2000. It was a part-time job and the first job I ever had that I loved. It was great to be supporting another business owner and helping families buy and sell their homes. Over time I have worked with a few different realtors as a transaction coordinator, and I loved my time in the real estate industry. Not only did I develop some lifelong friendships, but I also learned a lot about the industry and all the people who help with the home buying and selling process.
My Mortgage Career
In 2008 I moved to Fairbanks and took a job at Denali State Bank in their mortgage department as a processor and loan officer. I fell in love with the lending process. While the real estate industry was fun, I found helping people finance their new homes gratifying. Often, obtaining a mortgage is the most stressful part of the home buying process, and I loved to make that process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
In the years that followed, I moved back to the Valley and went back into real estate, but in 2018 I found my home at First Rate Financial. I worked in a support role until 2021 when I decided it was time to put everything I had learned over the past 20+ years into practice and step out on my own as a Mortgage Broker. That decision was the moment that Alaska Mortgage Momma was born!
I am so excited to be starting this new chapter in my life and career. I made many amazing relationships throughout my career, and it has been so much fun working with those people to help our shared clients. With the support of First Rate Financial, I look forward to serving the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and its surrounding areas for many years to come.
